west coast update
so this tour is getting close to being over, which makes us all very sad. we love our families in chicago, but we only feel right when we know we will be in a different place the next day. luckily, we saved the best for last, the west and southwest! we just met up with our great friend brian from baltimore we are chillin in rainy seattle. and in a couple days we are meeting up with our great friend susy (who played cello on the first two records) in california!
i fell asleep to the rain hitting the roof of our bus last night, and just sat up thinking about how sad we all are in this society. we are more seperated from each other, even though we all “stay connected” with our social networks and what not. maybe i was just born in the wrong time period or something, but the way that our culture works just doesnt work for me. the memories i cherish are the undocumented ones. the shit that happens in the spur of the moment; a feeling of peace shared by only you, and if you are lucky, a kindred spirit or two. not in front of a computer, or at a bar. its funny to be writing this into a computer, but im just letting my mind puke my thoughts out without fear of being judged or sounding dumb. i truly believe that we are supposed to be wild creatures, with an unbridled nature. with every new piece of technology we come up with, we take one step away from our inner beast, but something in our heads says that we need it to be happy, to keep up with the times, to stay connected. but straying from your nature, which is to be outside, and to be active and free and provide for yourself, is the root cause of that isolated lonely feeling. nomatter how many internet friends you have, you will never feel validated until you obey your nature. everyone is trying to figure out who they are, and to me this is a ridiculous and pointless quest. you are what you do. if you sit around and type on your computer and watch youtube videos of other people living, you are a computer. computers are sad. does anyone remember being a kid, falling asleep so excited for all the crazy shit the next day would bring? you didnt need money or a ride, you just needed a place to run free and build forts and start little wars. follow that little kid voice inside and you will find who you are. at the very least you might have some savage, undocumented fun!
ok, enough ramble for now. i hope i havent bored you all, and i hope you all try living like the animals you are for at least a day.
much love,
caleb
